About this destination

San Diego’s flat terrain, consistent weather, and excellent accessibility infrastructure make it one of the United States’s top family travel destinations for visitors with disabilities. Rady Children’s Hospital is one of the nation’s best paediatric facilities.

Balboa Park

Balboa Park is 1,200 acres of museums, gardens, and performance venues, virtually all wheelchair-accessible. The free park tram is lift-equipped. 17 museums including the Natural History Museum, the Automotive Museum, and the Museum of Art — all step-free.

San Diego Zoo

The Skyfari aerial tram is wheelchair-accessible and provides the best elevated view of the park. The guided bus tour covers the entire zoo without leaving your wheelchair.

Beaches

Coronado Beach and Mission Beach both have complimentary beach wheelchair hire. Coronado’s wide, flat, hardpacked sand makes it the best beach in Southern California for manual wheelchair users.

SeaWorld

SeaWorld San Diego operates a ride access card system equivalent to Universal’s AAP. The park’s single-level layout makes it unusually manageable for families with mobility needs.
